Speed dating is your chance to meet up to 20 potential matches in a single evening – a refreshing alternative to endless swiping in Brisbane’s increasingly digital dating scene. Our 30-55 age event at The Mix Bar (765 Stanley St, Woolloongabba QLD 4102) offers professionals a relaxed yet structured environment to make genuine connections. Located just a 5-minute walk from Woolloongabba bus station (routes 184 and 185) or a quick ride from South Bank train station, this venue is accessible for singles from neighboring New Farm and Kangaroo Point looking to expand their dating circles. For the event, we recommend smart casual attire – gents can grab a nice button-up from the James Street boutiques while ladies might find something perfect at the Gabba Central shopping precinct right around the corner.
How It Works
When you arrive, you’ll receive a name card and access to our Matching App 4.0 for later, then ladies will be seated while men rotate every five minutes when our bell rings. The evening runs from 7-9pm, featuring 12 five-minute dates with a strategic intermission at 8pm to refresh your drink and gather your thoughts. After each mini-date, you’ll discreetly mark on your card who you’d like to see again, and by 8am the next morning, you’ll receive the contact details of anyone who also selected you – no awkward rejections, just mutual matches. We provide conversation cards to help break the ice, which participants find infinitely more satisfying than crafting the perfect opening message on Tinder or Bumble. With exactly 20 men and 20 women attending (we cap numbers to ensure equal ratios), you’re guaranteed a full dance card of potential connections.

Speed Dating Social was founded by Brisbane local Darcy Todd in 2020 after his own dating app frustrations, and we’ve since hosted 787 events introducing 37,423 singles across Queensland. Our strict equal ratio booking policy ensures a balanced experience (which is why tickets occasionally sell out for one gender before the other). Tickets start at an affordable $29.90 for early birds, with last-release tickets at $34.90 (no refunds, but tickets can be transferred to future events with 48 hours’ notice). The Venue
The Mix Bar itself is a renovated Queenslander with a modern twist, featuring exposed brick walls, low-hanging Edison bulbs, and a sprawling deck with views of the Gabba cricket ground. Originally a worker’s cottage from the 1920s, it was transformed into a venue in 2018 by local hospitality power couple Jamie and Eliza Wong, who created the perfect atmosphere for our speed dating events with their semi-private booths and ambient lighting. Their signature “Brisbane Fling” cocktail (a passionfruit and native finger lime concoction) comes highly recommended as a conversation starter. The venue’s proximity to the iconic Story Bridge provides the perfect conversation topic – many of our successful couples have later enjoyed a bridge climb adventure as an unforgettable second date, turning that initial five-minute speed date into a memorable Brisbane romance with a spectacular view.

Of course, we always book equal 50:50 ratios. That’s why there’s a limited amount of both Male/Female tickets

If you give us minimum 7 days warning before an event, by our email matches@speeddatingsocial.com (not social media comments or DM requests) and if it’s agreed upon, then we can transfer your ticket to another posted event (not an untimed credit) of the same age range.
Yes, if you can’t make it you can transfer your ticket to a friend, providing they are the same gender and age range that you booked for.
On the night simply scan into our QR Code to access our Matching App 4.0. From there just enter that nights Event Code, your starting table number, mobile number, name and email. From there you’ll be texted and emailed a joining link. Click that link – you’ll then be able to see/ select anyone you like directly though your phone.
All matches are sent at 8am the following day. Even if you don’t select someone, you’ll still receive their contact their details if they selected you
